***********************************

This year, groups from across West Virginia – the WV PTA, PTO’s, Circle of Parents, and 50 other partners – are uniting to create Families Leading Change.  Families Leading Change is what it sounds like: a statewide coalition of parents, grandparents, students, and other kin coming together to make a difference in our local schools, while also joining together as a voice for public education at the county and state level.  We are not trying to re-invent the wheel – we want to support and fund and celebrate the great work you are already doing.

Support. We invite you to our first Families Leading Change Family Fest and Summit.  This is a 2-day, family-friendly event, where families, teachers, and community leaders can trade ideas about what works in schools.  There will be sessions ranging from school gardens and starting a STEM program to engaging fathers and school-based mental health… each one led by experts and families who have helped make it happen in their own school.

–> Register for the Summit September 22-23 at Fairmont State University: https://actionnetwork.org/ticketed_events/families-leading-change-2017-family-fest-and-statewide-summit.   (Bonus: bring your kids!  We will have children’s activities all day both days.)

Fund.  We have more than 40 mini-grants to offer YOU and your school, ranging from $500-$2000.  These mini-grants can be used are for any sustainable project or program that could strengthen your school.  Start an anti-bullying – starting an after school program or literacy project, making healthier school lunches or starting a Lego team.  Every one of these mini-grants will go to a school-based team in West Virginia that is tackling a new project or program. To qualify, send at least 2 people to the Summit to learn more.

Want to ask more questions about the grant?  Join our Webinar on August 30 at 4pmhttps://join.freeconferencecall.com/janderson037 Online Meeting ID: janderson037

Celebrate. Do you have a great project or program that your school is doing in partnership with parents, grandparents, and families?  We want to celebrate what you are doing.  Contact Charlotte Norrisat charlotte@ourfuturewv.org if you have any questions, or if you would like to be featured on our website and spread to families across the state who can learn from what you are doing!

Thank you so much for all you do.
