Circle of Parents is a national network of parent-led self-help groups, where parents and caregivers share ideas, celebrate successes and address the challenges surrounding parenting. West Virginia launched Circle of Parents in 2012, and the statewide network now includes 36 sponsoring organizations and has trained more than 100 group facilitators. Circle of Parents groups can be open to the general community or tailored to parents who share particular interests or circumstances. All groups agree to meet these standards:

•  Groups use the mutual self-help model.
• Groups are non-judgmental and promote a positive approach to parenting.
• Participation is free, confidential and anonymous.
• A trained facilitator and parent leader facilitate the support groups.
• Groups meet two to four times a month.
• The childcare needs of participants are addressed.

New organizations are now invited to join the WV Circle of Parents Network and attend a training workshop for new facilitators and parent leaders on December 5-6, 2018, at Stonewall Resort. 

The workshop fee, materials and lunches are covered by a grant from the WV Department of Health and Human Resources. Circle of Parents is a project of TEAM for WV Children, a Huntington-based nonprofit organization.

The first step is deciding if Circle of Parents is a good fit with your organization. Will Circle of Parents help further your organization’s mission with children and families, and is your organization prepared to provide the support needed for a group to thrive?

Interested organizations should download, complete and email the Circle of Parents Network Application, no later than midnight on November 2oth,2018 to LaCrisha Rose at LaCrisha@teamwv.org 

All applicants will be notified by no later than November 26th as to whether or not their applications have been accepted, based on space available. 

The Training Workshop

• All new member organizations send two or more people to the Facilitator and Parent Leader Training Workshop, which begins at 9:00 a.m. on December 5th and ends at 4:00 p.m. on December 6th. The workshop will be held  Stonewall Resort.

• Workshop fees, materials, and lunch both days are provided free of charge by a grant from the WV Department of Health and Human Resources through TEAM for WV Children.

• The grant also covers the cost of at least one lodging room (double occupancy) per organization the night of December 5th. Participants and organizations are welcome to pay for additional rooms at the reduced conference rate.
