Back to School Super Saturday Event at Huntington Mall

(Barboursville, WV —) On Saturday, August 9th from 11am-6pm the Huntington Mall will be celebrating the end of summer and the return of school with a large event geared towards fashion, safety, and healthy choices.  The event will include Back to School giveaways to include duffle bags to the first 200 to the event.

Events for this day include the following:

Get Smart about being healthy with the Hoops Family Children’s Hospital at Cabell Huntington Hospital and Cabell Pediatrics during the B2S Health Fair.

1 1A – 4 P-Center Court:  Join health professionals from the Hoops Family Children’s Hospital at Cabell Huntington Hospital and Cabell Pediatrics for a Back to School Health Fair for kids! A $250 Huntington Mall Gift Card will be awarded at 4pm to one lucky family who registered and participated at the Health Fair between 11am-3pm.

Kids and parents can learn how to pack a healthier lunch box and try free nutritious lunch samples while also receiving free screenings for hearing, vision, scoliosis and blood pressure. Dr. James Bailes, pediatric endocrinologist with Cabell Pediatrics will be available for parents to talk with a doctor and discuss diabetes, obesity and general health concerns for children. Additionally, health professionals from the Pediatric Rehabilitation Department at the Hoops Family Children’s Hospital will be available to provide speech and occupational therapy consults and to discuss developmental progress concerns parents may have. The Cabell-Huntington Health Department will immunizations including Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis), Rotavirus, Hib (Haemophilus influenza type b), Pneumococcal, Inactivated Poliovirus, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Meningococcal, HPV (Human Papillomavirus)and Tdap. The Trauma Department from Cabell Huntington Hospital will also provide safety tips for families.

Huntington YMCA presents the Kid Fit Program- 11-4p in Macy’s Court

This interactive program will give families a hands-on demonstration of the fantastic programs offered at the YMCA.

Kid Fit program provides children ages (8-17) a unique group exercise training program with their peers. Children will experience exercise like never before; through exergaming equipment. This equipment provides a “game” like atmosphere to our workout facility and unique games that involve exercise. This program will focus on fitness, but also nutrition education. Each 10 week session includes 2 opportunities for hands on learning at Huntington’s Kitchen as well as 1 grocery store tour for further nutrition education guided by a registered dietitian. Body Mass Index (BMI), body measurements, weight, height, and performance measurements will all be tracked for each participant’s progress.

Kid Fit: August 12-October 18 |Classes will be offered Tuesday/Thursday.

Non-Members $75 (Includes 1 year Youth Membership to Phil Cline Family YMCA)

Family Fit Program is a revolutionary opportunity for families with children ages (5-17) to participate in a 10 week program that will get the kids moving and having fun, while learning about fitness and nutrition. This program provides parents with a unique opportunity to be true examples of health in the home and to actively participate with their children. While the workouts are geared toward having fun and involving the children, they are very effective for adults too! This program will not only focus on fitness, but also nutrition education. Each session includes 2 opportunities for hands on learning at Huntington’s Kitchen as well as 1 grocery store tour for further nutrition education guided by a registered dietitian. Body Mass Index (BMI), body measurements, weight, height, and performance measurements will all be tracked for each participant’s progress. #WearItNow B2S Fashion Show will be held at 1pm in the Macys Court featuring the Fashion Advisory Board as well as guest models from the tri-state area, showcasing the industry’s top styles for Back-To-School. The conclusion of the Fashion Show will feature another opportunity to win a $250 Huntington Mall Gift Card.

During intermission of the B2S #WearItNow Fashion Show, scholarship checks will be awarded to two Fashion Advisory Board members from the 2013-2014 season. These awards are made possible thanks to the Fashion Advisory Board Sponsors: Cabell County Career and Technology Center, Marshall University Online College Courses in the High School, and Zephany Pictures.

Texting and Driving Kills!

11am-6pm in center court: Back to School Save a Life tour with Kramer Entertainment will feature a Distracted Driving Simulator to discourage Texting and Driving and will provide teens and adults the opportunity to try out the simulator and then sign the Don’t Text and Drive Pledge.  With each signed pledge is the opportunity to register for a $250 Huntington Mall Gift Card to be given away at 6pm at the end of the show.

Prevent Bullying Behavior

12:00-12:30, 2:00-2:30, & 3:00-3:30 in Macys Court:  Back to School Meet and Greet with Captain McFinn and Coral Rose. This will be an interactive event where Captain McFinn will talk to the kids about the importance of showing respect and kindness to others.  There will be little goody bags for the children who participate and sign the pledge.  This interactive event will focus on showing children the importance of respect and kindness.  According to the National Association of Elementary School Principals, bullying has become a national epidemic with an estimated 18 million children in the U.S. being bullied each year.  Educators agree it is critical to educate kids about bullying while they are young to discourage this negative trend.

LIVE MANNEQUIN MODELS

Throughout the mall, window shopping just got a lot cooler!  Customers will enjoy shopping the Huntington Mall and catching a glimpse of the Huntington Mall Fashion Advisory Board as they pose in store windows wearing some of the hottest fashions for Back to School!

Social Media Contest during the Live Mannequin Model event from 3p-4p. Four winners will be chosen to win one of four $25 Huntington Mall Gift Cards, when they find the live mannequin models, take a selfie in front of the window with the mannequin in the background, and tweet photo #B2SSelfie to @HuntingtonMall.  Winners will be tweeted back by the Huntington Mall beginning at 4pm.
