Tobacco Treatment Specialist Available at Cabell-Huntington Health Department

New Tobacco Treatment Available at the Cabell-Huntington Health Department

HUNTINGTON, West Virginia. The Cabell-Huntington Health Department is proud to announce a new service available for those who are battling tobacco addiction. Teresa Mills is the Regional Tobacco Prevention Coordinator based out of the Cabell-Huntington Health Department and provides tobacco prevention and cessation opportunities for six counties including Cabell, Mingo, Mason, Wayne, Lincoln and Logan. After three intensive days of training, Mills is now trained as a Tobacco Treatment Specialist through Duquesne University The Mylan School of Pharmacy and the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences to enhance tobacco treatment and services.

The Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training and Certificate program ensures that healthcare practitioners have specialized skills and knowledge to deliver effective evidence based tobacco cessation interventions. This program is designed for educators who deliver moderate to intensive tobacco treatment services with a healthcare of community setting. This program is accredited by the Council for Tobacco Treatment Training Programs (CTTTP). The program meets all of the requirements set for in the Clinical Practice Guidelines for Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence as well as the national competencies for Tobacco Treatment Specialist.

This training also places Ms. Mills as a member of the Association for Treatment of Tobacco Use and Dependence (ATTUD). The ATTUD is an organization of providers dedicated to the promotion of and increased access to evidence-based tobacco treatment for tobacco users.

This rewarding accomplishment is a tremendous benefit for Cabell County residents. With tobacco use on the rise this type of treatment can assist in combating tobacco use. Ms. Mills has gained the knowledge, expertise and resources to offer this type of treatment to our community.

Tobacco cessation classes are available by calling Teresa Mills at (304) 523-6483 x 283. All community members are encouraged to join the Cabell County Coalition for a Tobacco Free Environment to participate in ways to reduce tobacco use in Cabell County. The coalition meets every fourth Monday at the Cabell-Huntington Health Department at noon and lunch is provided.
