FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (07-29-2015)

Back-to-School Immunizations

Is Your Child Up to Date on Their Immunizations?

HUNTINGTON, WV. The Cabell-Huntington Health Department is encouraging parents/guardians to prepare children and adolescents for the upcoming 2015-2016 school year. Back to school is right around the corner! Don’t be late, vaccinate!

Several vaccines are required to enter pre-school or head start. Also, remember the school entry immunization requirements for 7th and 12th graders. Seventh graders must have Tdap (1 dose) and Meningococcal (1st dose), while 12th graders must have Tdap (1 dose) and Meningococcal (2nd dose if first was received before 16th birthday).

If a child has insurance they will need to contact their primary care provider for a referral.  The health department can immunize those who have no insurance, Medicaid, are Native Alaskan or those who are underinsured. It is highly recommended for parents/guardians to bring their child’s shot record.

There are many opportunities to receive immunizations, clinic hours are below.

Mondays 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Tuesday – Friday 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM

The Cabell-Huntington Health Department will also provide back to school immunizations for those that qualify at the Huntington Mall on Saturday, August 1st from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm in partnership with Cabell Huntington Hospitals Back to School event. Please bring shot records.

For a complete schedule of immunizations, please visit the health department’s website at www.cabellhealth.org or visit www.cdc.gov to learn more about vaccinations.
