Meeting Schedule: The Cabell FRN meeting is the 4th Tuesday of the month at 9:30 am,  from January through October. FRN will not meet on the 4th Tuesday during the weeks of Thanksgiving in November and Christmas and New Years in December.

Cancellation Policy: If countywide public school is  canceled due to severe weather conditions flooding, snow, ice,  flu, etc. or man – made disasters, FRN meetings will be cancelled.  If school is on a delayed schedule, then watch for announcements about meeting changes.

Communication Survey 

“Connect the Dots” project: The purpose of this initial meeting is to launch the “Connect the Dots” project. This would expand upon the successes of proven strategies and introduce a much-needed cross agency information-sharing component to Cabell County FRN’s growing repertoire of services and partnerships.

We will conduct a Research, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation public relations and communications plan for this project. This includes the launching of a holistic resource hub to expand programs’ capacities, increase awareness of community resources, strengthen nonprofit agencies and improve the quality of life in the Tri-State by helping parents easily navigate the resources available in Cabell County. These focus groups, a survey and supplemental research methods are the first phase in this project.

Unite Us is building a coordinated care network that spans clinical, behavioral, and social services and will allow organizations to send, receive, and track electronic referrals on a common technology platform. In partnership with Aetna Better Health of WV, Unite Us is launching a coordinated network in Clay, Kanawha, Boone, Putnam, Cabell, Lincoln and Wayne with hopes to expand to the rest of the state after the initial launch in March. As this is being sponsored by Aetna, there is no cost to partners to gain access to the software and be a part of the network to help better serve all community members in need of services. During the meeting on 1/28, the Unite Us Community Engagement Manager based in WV will be presenting to us on how the software works and how to get involved.

September 24, 2019–  Speaker Mary Lynn Tran, Prevention Education Specialist, Great Rivers Regional System of Addiction Care, Division of Addiction Sciences Marshall Health

– Great Rivers Regional System for Addiction Care is an innovated approach to addressing addiction and recovery efforts in the community. The system, funded through a $2 million award to Marshall Health by the Merck Foundation, brings together 70+ organizations and agencies in Cabell, Jackson, Kanawha and Putnam Counties in West Virginia. Our organization has six components including:

  • Community Health and Prevention
  • Harm Reduction
  • Naloxone Administration and Training
  • Project Engage
  • PROACT
  • Quick Response Teams

The goal is to reduce opioid overdoses and overdose deaths, increase access and retention in substance abuse treatment, enhance access to care for viral hepatitis and HIV, and to improve public health education to increase awareness and prevention of substance abuse and addiction.

What is Circle of Parents (COP)? Presented by Robin Hughes, Family Resource Specialist with Legal Aid of WV

Circle of Parents (COP) is a national network of parent-led groups, where parents and caregivers share ideas, celebrate successes and address the challenges surrounding parenting. COP begin in 2000 and now has groups in two dozen states. West Virginia launched COP in 2012 with five pilot organizations, which have since grown to more than a dozen sponsoring organizations holding groups across the state.  COP groups can be open to the general community or tailored to people who share particular interest or circumstances. All groups include seven elements: Inclusiveness, Trust, Respect, Experience-Based, Ownership, Positive Parenting and Shared leadership.

Joel Jones, Campbell Woods – Mr. Jones earned a Juris Doctor from the West Virginia College of Law and is a member of the Order of the Coif. He received his Bachelor of Science degree at Marshall University in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. A member of the West Virginia State Bar, his court admissions include the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals, United States District Court of the Southern District of West Virginia, Northern District of West Virginia, and the Supreme Court of Ohio.

His professional affiliations include the Energy and Mineral Law Foundation and the Federalist Society. Mr. Jones is a member of the Greater Huntington Estate Planning Council and the Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Generation Huntington.

  • Club McFinn Junior Community based initiative at the Family Resource Network is preparing 53 school supply kits for this Thursday. IF you would to donate school supplies, bring them with you to FRC meeting July 27 at 10 at Housing Authority or contact Shane Randolph
  • Club McFinn Junior at the Mall at 11:Marshall Football players will be joining the children.  Come join us and wear your MU green! Flood relief care kits will be packed.
  • The McFinn Junior Dream Team will being meeting at noon at the “Unsmashable” Pirate Ship: Plans begin for Fall Tuesdays for Toddler activities.  location: right outside the J. C. Penney’s entrance.
