Description: This workshop will present an overview of trauma; its biological, psychological, and social impact on children; and strategies to help children and families who are affected by trauma.

Objectives:

1.  To understand to impact of trauma on a child’s behavior and development

2.  To incorporate that understanding of trauma into work with children and families

Topics include:

Introduction and Overview of trauma and biological effects

Essential elements of Trauma Informed care – psychological and social impact

Helping children and parents

Secondary Trauma – symptoms and prevention

Wrap up – question and answers

Application is being submitted for WV STARS and and Social Work continuing education credit.
