It’s time again to gather the stories for the Empty Stocking in the Herald Dispatch. I am supposed to mail the file to the paper before Thanksgiving, so the sooner the better. I am sure you remember the drill~
1) True story with false names, of a person or family you work with, who has a special need that the community might provide for the holiday season.
2) Your name, the name of your agency, and a phone number where you can be reached.
Example: Diana is a young single mother trying to complete her education. She stands at the bus stop every morning,. freezing. She could use size 7 warm boots, some mittens and a scarf. Call Sidney, Information and Referral, (304) 528-5660
It needs to be brief, but with a little point of interest. Not: “Boys need bunk beds.”
We can’t go for big expensive items. It won’t happen.
We’re not really aiming for toys, because there was the Salvation Army sign-up, there will be Toys For Tots, and Crickets Kids. Other local Christmas parties will arise, I am sure.
We’ve gathered a lot of items in the past, and I am hoping this will be a great year, too. Please get me your lists ASAP, but definitely by November 15th. Last year a few came in after the deadline, actually after it had been in the paper. So thank you for your timeliness~
